This year's focus "Resilience" - ideas on a better future
Crises always offer opportunities for change. In the face of area-wide crises affecting our personal, societal, economic, ecological and geological levels, resilience becomes visible. As a sustainable competence not only to deal with crises but also to remain adaptable and resilient in the future under changing conditions.
Alexandra Klatt's team of State of Design curates the Berlin Design Week (BNDNWK) from 8 to 17 May 2023 on the subject of "Resilience" all over Berlin. “Resilience” is understood here not as a “biting through” – but rather as putting oneself in a position for positive change and adaptation, as the ability to tolerate uncertainty, to recognize opportunities in crises, and a willingness to transform to ensure stability.

Therefore the Berlin Design Week welcomes designers, design studios, design collectives, brands, companies, agencies and institutions to participate – from start-ups to big players, scientists and research groups, and newcomers from all industries. The pillars of the programme are diversity, ways of thinking and approaches to design that envision and shape our future. At BERLIN DESIGN WEEK, scientific progress, fresh ideas and ethical responsibility all come together to create the design of tomorrow.
As an event partner, iF Design is looking forward to meeting you at several occasions during the week - with the iF DESIGN AWARD NIGHT 2023 as a satellite event on 15 May 2023 in the glamorous Friedrichstadt-Palast and in the iF Design Lounge.
The OPEN STUDIO NIGHTS
The Open STUDIO NIGHTS are an integral part of the BERLIN DESIGN WEEK and are open to all designers, agencies, institutions, labs or studios based in Berlin. On two evenings the studios invite with small exhibitions, presentations or talks to get to know their studios and work and to exchange and network.
